Who is the DipCP for?
Every person considering the Diploma in Creative Producing will have their own story and their own reason for considering the course.
The DipCP is suitable for:
- Practicing creative producers working freelance or within organisations.
- University Graduates who believe creative producing is a career to pursue but who have not gone down the MA route. This includes people who may have not studied Theatre or Performance, but may have been an essential part of the Live Art scene or University dramatic or operatic society management.
- Individuals who enjoyed arts and culture at school. Applicants do not have to hold a university degree to apply. Applicants can be rediscovering their creative path or have some arts/fringe/project creation experience and are ready to undertake a training opportunity.
- Performers, writers, theatre makers or individuals engaged in a related industry who are now looking to retrain as a producer.
- Those thinking of doing an MA but would like a kick-start their studies by engaging in a producing intensive first.
Each cohort is a mix of the above. You may or may not fit one of these areas. If you don’t, please still contact us. If you want to be a Creative Producer, then we want to hear from you.
Entry Requirements
1. A level of creative maturity shown in current work, previous training, or vision for the future.
Creative maturity refers to the ambition to be a creative producer. We believe a producer must be in the room/environment where creative practice is happening. Creative maturity does not refer to your age, qualifications, or achievements of success
2. Availability to participate in the course online two days a week, with enough time to work with your cohort collaboratively across the rest of the week, for reading, and establishing your creatives projects.
We welcome applications from individuals who: have a freelance portfolio, have a job, have caring commitments, or are completing other studies. Each candidate needs to take careful consideration of the work/life, course/work balance. Experience shows that some busy people are super organised because they must be, and some juggle many plates in a slightly more uncomfortable way. Our tutors are there to help guide you.
3. English at a level necessary for discussion and verbal presentations
We do not require an IELTS test to join the course. We are confident your application and face to face interview will show us your understanding of English. If we are unsure, we may ask you to participate in an oral/seminar-based discussion online.
If English is your second language, we encourage you to really hone your skills discussing topics around the arts and culture. You may listen to lectures in English, Theatre Podcasts that are discussed in English, or read texts/articles. You need to arrive on Day 1 of the 16 weeks able to assimilate everything you hear and contribute fully. We will help you – we have plenty of experience of seeing rapid improvement in international students’ fluency within a few weeks.
Assignments may be written in your first language, but we will need a reasonable translation (better than Google Translate) and you will need to be able to discuss the ideas in English with us. Classes are captured in audio using Otter.ai for all participants to review in their own time.
